Our neighborhood - Metaxoyrgeio area
Metaxourgeio area is one of the most emerging parts of Athens city center. Some decades ago a residential area with two storey houses (you can see some of them going under restoration) now is a multicolored area with galleries, funky and modern bars, and Michelin starred restaurants with Greek, Mediterranean, International and fusion cuisine.
Metaxourgeio means “silk processing factory” and was named after one operating during the first years of Athens as the Greek capital. Now the old factory houses part of the City Art Gallery at Avdi square (500m from My Athens Hotel).
My Athens Hotel is also close to National Theatre (500m), Omonia Square (1 Metro stop-Line 2), Syntagma square (1,000m or 3 Metro stops – Line 2), National Archaeological Museum, Ancient Cemetery of Kerameikos, and in walking distance from Plaka, Thissio, Ancient Agora of Athens, Monastiraki square, Ermou str., Acropolis and Acropolis Museum.
If you are up for a fun night out and a nightlife mingling with young Athenians, around the neighborhood is always Gazi area (Line 3 – Kerameikos station). Gazi hosts a great number of restaurants, bars and clubs also “Technopolis of Athens” 30.000 m2 of exhibition spaces and the Industrial Gas Museum.
Access is easy to all public transportation, Metro (line 2), Suburban Rail, Central Railway Station of Athens, and the Athens International Airport.
